In loving memory of Pete Sowell, close friends organized a memorial 5k race benefitting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) this past weekend.
Over $30,000 will be donated to #JDRF, three times as much as the initial goal, thanks to a supportive community and a close-knit group of friends who helped spread the word.
Pete was stricken with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 14. He never let Diabetes control his life and lived each day doing exactly what Pete wanted to do. Eventually, the disease took Pete from us, but it can never take away the memories, inspirations and laughs that Pete shared with us.

Saturday’s event was the largest non-sponsored event for JDRF, an impressive feat for the first annual 5k! After the race, participants gathered at Triple C Brewery for drinks and live music.

These altruistic individuals hope to make the Pete Sowell Memorial 5k an annual event to raise awareness and financially support juvenile diabetes research as well as bring friends of Pete back together.
The Pete Sowell Memorial 5k is a run honoring the life and memory of our best friend Pete. #dustymag5k
